SIDNEY – Brock Buckner, Sr., has his name in the race for Sidney City Council.

He says he is drawn by the energy, the changes taking place.

“We have a new mayor. We have what ... two, three new councilmen. Potentially, we’ll have a new city manager. Lori retired. We have that. We have a new City attorney, I mean, a whole lot of new ideas, a whole lot of fresh eyes, a whole lot of fresh energy,” Buckner said.

Buckner was appointed to fill Roger Gallaway’s term after he resigned. He then sought a four-year term in 2024.

“I feel in my first two years, I was able to learn, I was able to get my feet wet, understand a little bit more of the workings of our city and I think this time, especially with four years, I’ll be able to see some projects through that I felt that I wanted to contribute,” he said.

He said his four two years he approached with the attitude of we live here, we want to contribute. He said his first time on the council was an education, starting with the business of the city.

“The business, the financial necessities, especially in having lost Cabela’s which I wasn’t really aligned with because I didn’t live here, I just, I knew of Cabela’s. But the financials necessary to help individuals when you lose a conglomerate like that continue to feed the city. What is necessary? What, what we are responsible for as it pertains to the citizens, and what we need to do to make a city thrive. That I had not needed to concern myself with until I became a councilman,” he said.

He said his biggest assets if elected will be the lessons learned during his first seat on the council. He said with new leadership, the city can reset the team mentality.
