Land sale finalized for Landmark Snacks expansion

BEATRICE – The City of Beatrice has approved the sale of property to Landmark Snacks, for the Beatrice company’s manufacturing project in the north Gage County Industrial Park.
The city council has approved the sale of just over 24 acres of farm ground the city earlier acquired.
"The sale price is $14,000 per acre.....so it comes out to a total price of $336,140."
City Administrator Tobias Tempelmeyer says the price was the same as the city paid to acquire the land and the money will go into the city’s LB 840 economic development fund. Transfer of the property is expected in about 30 days.
In a separate property matter, elected officials approved vacating a part of 25th Street in east Beatrice and are selling land to R-W-R LLC, for paved parking associated with a housing development. The sale price was $9,000.
Council members also approved an agreement to forward some $30,000 from the former Gage County Economic Development organization, to be used for development purposes. Mayor Bob Morgan says the use of the money aligns with what the former G-C-E-D desires.
"The city council is not calling the shots, where the money goes. The GCED is doing that. It's the money they want to give back to us, to put back into economic development. I just want to clear the air.....we're not trying to control anything."
The Gage County Board is scheduled to act on the agreement.
Three mayoral appointments were affirmed by the council. Thomas Bradney, David Painter and Vaughn Wright will serve on the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission.
