Merlin M. Meyer

Merlin Martin Meyer, age 86 of Wymore passed away on April 8, 2025 at Bryan Medical Center East surrounded by his family. He was born on January 2, 1939 to Arthur and Selma (Niemeier) Meyer. He graduated from Plymouth High School where he had earned several awards and accolades in basketball and track. Merlin served 2 years in the Air Force Reserves before being honorably discharged. On April 2, 1967 he was united in marriage to Janice Jean Jerman. To this union, two daughters were born: Jill and Janelle.
Merlin went to work at the Phillips Hoag Plant near Beatrice and worked there until his retirement in December of 1999. He also bought his first farm southeast of Wymore where he farmed 80 acres of corn and milo, raised Angus and built a farrow to finish hog operation for his beloved wife, Janice. He loved sports, especially Husker football, volleyball and basketball. He loved being outdoors, had a special place in his heart for animals - which he passed down to his daughter, Jill. The love he had for his grandchildren and great grandchildren was unfathomable. He enjoyed watching them in school activities, sports and showing their animals and projects in 4-H.
Merlin is survived by his daughters, Janelle (Steve) Hurley and Jill (Jamie) Kuzelka; grandchildren, Jerrad (Dakota) Hurley, Derrick Hurley (significant other Krista), Trevor (Nicole) Hurley, Shad (Brittany) Siebrandt, Taylor Siebrandt, Natasha Siebrandt, Chance (Emma) Siebrandt and Billie Joe Ford; great grandchildren, Abbii Hurley, Parker, Noah, Aspen, Josephine and Stetson Hurley, Paisley, Quinn, and Reed Siebrandt, Emma Peters, Journee and Bentley Vanderkurr-Peters, Ethan Preusker, Marilyn and Lily Morter, Payton Hurley, and Jada Hurley; brothers-in-law, Gary (Ruby) Jerman and Dale Grummert; many nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janice (June 18, 2024); parents-in-law, Glen and Dorothy Jerman; brothers, Marvin Meyer and Melvin (Darlene) Meyer; sister, Marlys Grummert; and great great granddaughter, Samara Redfield.
A funeral service will take place at 10:30 AM on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at the Wymore Church of Christ with Clayton Lundstedt officiating. Burial will be at the Wymore Cemetery. A family prayer service will begin at 10:15 AM. The body will lie in state at Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home in Wymore on Friday from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the family greeting relatives and friends from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM and at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family's choice for future designation with the funeral home in charge.
