Class D2 - #4 Dorchester (23-2)

The Longhorns have put together a steadily dominant campaign and have authored unquestionably the best season in program history. They were the #4-seed in the district finals last week and had to host the game at a neutral site, but still managed to fend off Dundy County Stratton 46-44 to book a rare trip to Lincoln for the state tournament.

Dorchester picked up one curious loss against a sub-.500 BDS team, but their only other loss came at home to an excellent Cross County squad which is in the state tournament field as the #5-seed in Class C2. Aside from that, the Longhorns have handled everyone else they have faced this year, and haven’t even allowed their opponents to score 750 points this season. Up first this week, #4-seed Dorchester faces #5-seed Silver Lake (21-4) on Thursday morning.

Class D1 - #7 Diller-Odell (18-7)

The Griffins have long believed they are one of the best teams in Class D1 girls basketball, and they’ve proved that with a strong month of February. They’ve close out the year winning six in a row and seven of eight, with the only loss coming by just five points to C2 #1-seed Johnson-Brock. D-O hosted and won its subdistrict and hosted a district final, where the Griffins defeated Lourdes Central Catholic 55-49, their third time defeating them in the last month.

The Griffins have had to withstand some injuries which have forced a couple of key players to miss some time. But their roster still boasts star senior Myleigh Weers, one of the top scorers in any class of girls basketball in the state of Nebraska. With a solid, gritty core around her, a large group of Griffin seniors are bookending their high school careers with trips to the state tournament. Up first this week, #7-seed Diller-Odell faces #2-seed Elm Creek (24-1) on Wednesday evening.

Class C1 - #3 Milford (23-1)

You don’t have to look any further than the record to know that the Milford Eagles have authored an exceptional season. This has been a very good team in years past under Phil Stauffer and now under Bryce Roth for the last half-decade, but this year’s Eagles team has soared to heights previously untouched. They enter this year’s state tournament on a 17-game win streak after outlasting Pierce 46-39 in the district final.

Milford’s only loss this year was a 69-67, couldn’t-be-closer contest on the final day of 2024 to Lincoln Christian – they're the undefeated #1 team in Class C1, a group that Roth has called one of the best teams in any class this season. Aside from that, Milford has dominated, outscoring their opponents by 700 points in their 24 games. And there’s a very good chance that the Eagles and Crusaders could meet again – only this time, a state title would be on the line. Up first this week, #3-seed Milford takes on #6-seed Arlington (21-4) on Wednesday afternoon.

Class B - #8 Norris (16-8)

The Titans entered Saturday’s district final at just 4-4 over their previous eight games, though all four losses were by tight margins to good teams, including an infamous buzzer-beater loss to Lincoln Pius in subdistricts. But Norris left no doubt that it is once again one of the best girls basketball teams in Class B this season when the Titans went on the road and shut down Seward 52-30 in the district final, helping Norris secure a trip to the state tournament for the sixth consecutive season.

The Titans boast a deep team with a lot of players that have stepped up in key moments at different times this year, and that will make them a tough out as they make the short trip up from Firth to Lincoln for the state tournament once again. Up first this week, #8-seed Norris must take on top-seeded Omaha Skutt Catholic (25-1) on Thursday afternoon in a rematch of a game that Skutt won by only six on February 11.
