Gerald "Jerry" Day Obituary

Gerald Richard Day, son of Richard (Dick) and Lila (Schutz) Day was born on April 4, 1955, in Hebron, Nebraska.    He passed away on February 10, 2025 at the age of 69 years, 10 months and 6 days at CHI St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island, Nebraska, with his sisters by his side.

Jerry was baptized at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on April 17, 1955, and was confirmed at the same Church on February 25, 1964.

Jerry graduated from Hebron High School in 1973.  After various jobs, Jerry became employed for the State Department of Roads on August 15, 1979.  He retired on October 19, 2019.  In those years he was a maintenance worker, a senior maintenance worker and a supervisor.

Jerry’s hobbies included hunting, golfing, men’s slow pitch softball and especially raising Golden Retriever dogs.  You would often see him driving around town with his dogs in the back of his truck or riding with him in his side by side.  Jerry also enjoyed teaching his nephews how to golf and hunt and from time to time, still golfed with them.

Jerry is preceded in death by his Grandparents, Thomas & Velma Schutz, and William & Grace Day and brother-in-law, James Fangmeier.

Jerry is survived by his dogs, Rocky and Ginger, parents, brother Tom (Cathy) Day of Syracuse, Nebraska; sisters Nancy (Brad) Elting and Mary Fangmeier all of Hebron, Nebraska.  Nieces and Nephews:  Melissa (Andy) Ragatz, Travis (Ali) Day, Nicholas (Lindsay) Elting, Michael (Kelsey) Elting, Nathan (Kate) Elting, Dustin (Dannyris) Powell, Jeremy Powell, Jamie (Austin) Schweitzer, Chris (Traci) Fangmeier and Andrew (Amelia) Fangmeier, and many great nieces and nephews, cousins, and aunts and uncles.

Mr. Day will lie in state Thursday February 13th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kroll - Massey Funeral Home in Hebron.  Recitation of Rosary will be at 7:00 PM at Kroll - Massey Funeral Home.  Funeral Mass will be Friday February 14th 2025 at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron with Father Steven Major presiding.  Burial will take place in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Hebron.
