BEATRICE, Neb. - Firefighters responded to a large fire in north Beatrice Monday night.

Beatrice Rural Fire Chief Matt Langley says multiple departments were dispatched to 19th and Sargent streets after a report that a space heater led to an explosion in a camper outside of a home.

"It got called in as a space heater being on and that's when we were called out, there was nobody inside at the time."

Beatrice Rural Fire and Rescue, Pickrell Volunteer Fire, and Filley Volunteer Fire all responded to the scene. No injuries occurred to personnel or occupants, but Langley says it's believed that a cat perished inside the camper.

Firefighters remained on scene after 9:00 p.m. and the Nebraska State Fire Marshall plans to investigate.
