MARYSVILLE, Ks. -- Three sisters are partnering up to run a new restaurant in downtown Marysville.

The Hernandez sisters opened Patronas Bar and Grill, located on Broadway Street.

Laura is the oldest sister, three years older than Judy Bell, who is five years older than Kimberly. Laura and Judy Bell have lived in the town for a few years while Kimberly, only a few months.

Their family is from Texas but they say they want to stay.

“It’s a very nice community. It’s very welcoming and homey,” said Kimberly Hernandez, youngest sister. “So, we thought this is a place where you wanna start a new life, build a family and go on from there.”

They come from a family that largely works in the construction industry, but they still found some inspiration for the restaurant.

“Whenever I first started I wanted to be in the restaurant industry is when one of my aunts came home during hurricane season,” said Kimberly. “And we would go down to Houston, where she has her food truck and her tacos are the bomb.”

Their sisterly connection allowed them to set up Patronas in just two weeks.

“And the good thing is that there are three of us so she can something else, she can do something and I can do something. It worked out great for all of us,” said Kimberly.

With sibling relationships comes a little bit of arguing.

“We try to calm down before we argue,” said Judy Bell Hernandez, the middle sibling. “We do try to work things out and talk among each other.”

But they love each other and are ready to serve the community of Marysville.

“We love each other a lot. And what makes it easier on us is that we always say something funny and it relaxes us and we come back to recenter,” said Kimberly. “‘What are we doing wrong?’, ‘What should we better?’, ‘What should we do now?’”
