BEATRICE – Motorists near a Gage County village are having to work their way around a bridge closure. A bridge over Indian Creek located at the east edge of Pickrell was closed about a week ago.   It’s along the hard-surfaced West Pickrell Road.

Eastbound traffic from Pickrell is being detoured north at the intersection with Southwest 2nd Road.

Gage County Highway Department Superintendent Mark Kuhnke says a bridge inspection turned up deficiencies in the deck of the bridge.    County officials are considering their options on how to fix the problem…and whether that involves simply replacing the deck, or also making other structural improvements.

It’s not immediately known how long the bridge may be closed.  Kuhnke says the road at the bridge site has an average daily traffic count of 727 vehicles.
