BEATRICE – Some area schools are embarking on the opportunity to have a school resource officer on their campuses.

Gage County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Hager recently completed training to become a school resource officer.    The plan is to split time with Southern Schools in Wymore, Diller-Odell Public Schools and Freeman Public Schools.

Hager met with the Southern Schools Board of Education this week to be introduced to the district.

School resource officers or deputies can assist with school security and help develop positive relationships between law enforcement, students and staff.
