Lower Big Blue NRD recreation areas reopening for the season

BEATRICE – Recreation areas in the Lower Big Blue Natural Resources District are opening to vehicle traffic today, for the 2023 season. 

Nine of ten recreation areas managed by the district are reopening for the new season.  Only Cub Creek Recreation area northwest of Jansen is closed and will reopen in mid-May, once renovation work there is completed.

Others that are reopening include Walnut Creek northeast of Crete….Swanton Wildlife Management area north of the village….Willard Meyer Recreation Area  east of Tobias….and Big Indian Recreation area southwest of Wymore.

The recreation areas, up until Friday, had been closed to vehicle access for the winter months and hunting season.

The Lower Big Blue NRD works with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission to manage fisheries in the district. The Lower Big Blue NRD Office in Beatrice has a free brochure on fishing, hunting, boating, camping and picnic shelters, among other information.
