WOLBACH, NE — The BDS Eagles football team played its final game of the season Friday night, falling to the Central Valley Cougars 42-20 in the Class D2 quarterfinals of the NSAA football playoffs.
BDS scored the first points of the game on the opening drive as Jaron Norder punched it in from one yard out to put the Eagles in front 6-0. BDS got the ball back on a punt, but fumbled it away inside the Cougars' 10-yard-line and Central Valley took over.
This sparked a scoring streak for Central Valley. The Cougars' star running back Zander Wolf scored on Central Valley's next drive to pull things even at 6. He'd get another before halftime, putting the Cougars' up 14-6.
Also in the second quarter, BDS temporarily lost Norder and leading rusher Easton Weber to injuries. By the time the two re-entered the game in the third quarter, Central Valley led 28-6 behind two more Wolf touchdown runs.
BDS kept pace with the Cougars after Norder and Weber came back, but couldn't make up the deficit.
Central Valley, the 12th seed in the 16-team field, has now upset the five-seed Sandhills/Thedford and No. 4 BDS en route to a semifinal appearance.
BDS ends its season at 10-1.
