Celebrating culture, with Irish Dancing at the Homestead

BEATRICE – Homestead National Historical Park visitors were treated to Irish dancing, among the acts scheduled on the weekend of Homestead Days. Performing on a stage in the bowl outside of the Education Center, the Kansas City Irish Dancers gave a Saturday performance. It’s a well known and in high demand group from the heart of Kansas City making a return appearance.


Homestead Chief Park Ranger Amy Genke said, "This is actually the second year for the Irish Dancers. The are relatively new, and it's a great way for us to really commemorate all of the different cultures that came to our country on the Homestead Act."


Saturday performances scheduled included the Homestead Harmonizers, a well-known local barbershop chorus….C.A. Waller, providing a musical program of different forms of Blues music……and the Spirit of Grace…..a six-piece gospel group who are descendants of a black homesteading community of Nicodemus, Kansas.


Sunday scheduled performances included the Omaha Pipes and Drums Scottish Highland group…..the Many Moccasins Dance Troupe of Native American dancers….. Edem Soul….a singer and songwriter from Ghana….and the Jurana Duet, featuring traditional Peruvian Flamenco music.
