Town of Pickrell looking to raise money from 2022 Pickrell Picnic
The Pickrell Picnic kicks off on Saturday in southeast Nebraska.

PICKRELL - The Pickrell Picnic kicks off on Saturday in southeast Nebraska.
The picnic has been around for about 50 years and Ross Trauernicht explained some of the events history.
“It used to be carnival and those became hard to come by,” Trrauernicht said. “Then street dances became a big thing, it sort of phased out for a little bit, but we had a 125th anniversary celebration and we started picking it up again.”
An added element to the Pickrell Picnic is the fact that all funds from the event go straight back into the community. Treuernicht explains.
“Everything we make in this little event that we have, we put back into the community,” Treurnicht said. “We ut money into the park, the shelter, the community center and get a jump on the projects… We have the lighting project we want to do, fire station wants to add on, so people chip in and help.”
The picnic kicks off on Saturday and volunteer Cheri Pieper talked about a few things going on during day one.
“Starting on Saturday at 7:00 AM, we’ll have the one ‘hill’ of a run, it’s a 5K, the run actually starts at 8:00,” Pieper said. “At 9:00 we have registration going on for the car show, a bake sell going on at the Methodist church, and we’’ have boutiques and more going on at the community center."
Other events throughout the weekend inlaced a tractor trek and show, live music, and sand volleyball.
