LINCOLN, Neb. — A 45-year-old man is in custody after Lincoln Police say he threatened to cut customers at a gas station.

Shortly before 10:00 Thursday night, officers were dispatched to a gas station in the 600 block of S. 10th. Callers had reported a man threatening to cut people in the parking lot and in the store. 

Officers arrived and placed Alan Varela, 45, in custody. 

LPD officials said Varela was in possession of a 5” fixed blade at the time of his arrest. 

He was transported to jail where he was lodged for terroristic threats, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony and possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person. 

The arresting officer stated that they believed Varela was intoxicated at the time of his arrest.
