Lady O, Orangemen split with GI Northwest

Grand Island - Beatrice basketball is heading home 1-1 on Friday night.
The Lady Orange fell to the Vikings 43-40, while the Orangemen were 49-40 winners.
The girls game was all Beatrice to start, as Hatcliff and Leners would combine for the first eight points of the game to put Beatrice out front 8-1. A big run by the Vikings would then lead to them controlling much of the first half, but Morgan Mahoney buried a deep triple from straight away at the halftime buzzer to put Beatrice ahead by two at the break.
Beatrice led late, but Rylie Rice, Northwest's star player, found her groove late to the tune of 15 total points, but it was Madison Cushing who hit some big triples late to edge the Lady O.
The games leading scorer was Addie Hatcliff who dropped 16.
Beatrice falls to 12-4 on the year.
The Orangemen entered tonight's matchup having lost three of their last four contests. Tonight they found a path to victory behind a 25 point outing from Elliot Jurgens.
Beatrice led by two at the half and by four heading to the fourth thanks to a big triple from Shelton Crawford to beat the buzzer. Beatrice took care of the basketball late, despite Tucker Timmerman fouling out with about 90 seconds remaining.
Beatrice improves to 12-5 on the season.
Two regular season games remain for both squads, as Beatrice returns home for a rescheduled game with Plattsmouth on Monday, before wrapping things up with a trip to Waverly on Thursday.
