LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Lincoln Police Department is investigating a fire it says was likely intentionally set.

Just before 8:30 p.m. on Monday, witnesses reported seeing a black Ford Explorer engulfed in flames in the 2500 block of Theresa Street.  Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews arrived and extinguished the flames but not before the fire caused approximately $1000 damage to a nearby mobile home.

A fire inspector conducted an investigation and determined the fire was likely intentional.

The vehicle’s owner was not present, but officers contacted her to notify of the damage.

The owner estimated she had $8000 worth of personal belongings in the vehicle.  The vehicle itself was valued at $3000.

Officers spoke with witnesses and collected digital evidence.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about this case is encouraged to call Lincoln Police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
