BEATRICE – Southeast Community College has approved new district elective office boundaries, based on the 2020 Census.

The SCC Board approved the redistricting plan Tuesday, with the school’s five districts ranging from a population low of 98,066, to 100,691.

SCC Board member Dr. Ellen Weissinger says the formation of new districts went smoothly.
"It's been completely non-partisan...it's been unselfish and collaborative..and I think the board should really be proud of that."

Weissinger says the objectives in the redistricting process included assuring the character of each of the five districts remained as is…urban or rural…that sitting board members be retained in the districts in which they were elected….and to create smooth boundaries down to the precinct level.

Population in the five districts varied within 2.6%.

The board held a workshop on the proposed map Tuesday, approving it later in the day by unanimous vote, at the board’s regular December meeting.
