Rural Adams man dies in accident near Sterling

Johnson County law officers investigate early morning accident west of community

Sterling, NE - Johnson County authorities are reporting a fatality accident that happened early Friday morning, one mile west of Sterling, Nebraska.

Johnson County Attorney Ben Beethe says sheriff’s officers received an emergency call about a single vehicle accident involving a pickup.

The 2005 Dodge Ram was driven by 74-year-old James Young, of rural Adams.  He was declared dead at the scene of the mishap.  Authorities said he was using a safety restraint at the time of the accident. 

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and Nebraska State Patrol are investigating the accident.  Sterling Fire and Rescue responded to the scene, at around 1:20 a.m.  

Authorities said it’s not known at this time whether traffic speed or alcohol use were factors in the crash.
