Gage County law officers caution about rural theft
Equipment stolen from pivot system in northern Gage County

BEATRICE – The Gage County Sheriff is issuing a public alert following the recent theft of copper wire in a local agricultural area. It happened sometime between the end of the 2024 harvest season and the end of January.
Sheriff Millard Gustafson says it raises concern about the possibility of unreported thefts in the area.
Sheriff’s officials say about 1,275 feet of control cable or alignment wire were stolen on a center pivot irrigation system near South 96th and East Cedar Road…about four miles southwest of Adams. Wires and cables were also cut from the tower control and junction boxes on the irrigation system’s eight towers.
Gustafson says the value of the damage and loss is estimated to exceed $30,000.
Sheriff’s officials urge the public to remain vigilant and report any unusual activity in their area…or if anyone has witnessed suspicious activity around the time of the recent incident….to come forward with any information.
Farmers and property owners are also urged to review security measures to protect against theft…and to check pivot systems for any damage or missing equipment.
