MARYSVILLE, KS. - A weekend of history and cycling is coming up in a northeastern Kansas town.
“So we have 400 riders coming to town, they’re going to ride about 120 miles throughout our beautiful country side.”
Marysville Tourism Director Wayne Kruse says the town is getting ready for this weekend’s Pony Express 120 Gravel Dash, which includes the bike race and a number of educational sessions. Kruse says the bike race is a good fit for the town, as Marysville is known for biking.
“We have a great biking community here in Marysville,” Kruse said. “It’s anchored with Backroads Bicycle in downtown, the owners are Mark and Renae Hoffman and they organize our gravel dash. With the bike store right down town, people hop on the trail and cycle throughout the area.”
Marysville has held a number of summer events and festivities this summer and adds another this weekend. Kruse says the event hopes to help businesses with hundreds of biers coming to town, but also give Marysville residents pride in their hometown.
“These events create opportunities for our residents to feel good about where they live,” Kruse said. “People want to travel to places where people love to live and this will help Marysville resident solve where they live.”
