Strong winds and hail the main weather threats in southern Nebraska

BEATRICE – More strong thunderstorms affected areas of southeast Nebraska Saturday evening, with a marginal risk of more severe weather in the Sunday outlook for the region.

Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for several counties in southeast Nebraska and northeast Kansas…from late afternoon Saturday to around 9 p.m.

Just over a half-inch of rain fell overnight at KWBE, in Beatrice.  Two to three inches of rain was reported north of Beloit, Kansas...falling in an hour-fifteen-minutes. 

Quarter-size hail was reported by an observer at Pawnee City, Nebraska and spotters reported quarter to half-dollar sized hail at Washington and Morrowville Kansas.   Several reports of hail ranging from quarter to baseball-sized were reported in north-central Kansas near the Glen Elder Reservoir, around 8 p.m. 

Thunderstorm wind gusts estimated at 60-miles per hour caused some broken tree limbs and some shingle damage in the Hanover and Marysville, Kansas area.

The National Weather Service reported that parts of southeast Nebraska, most of eastern Kansas, southern and eastern Iowa and much of Missouri are in a marginal risk area for more severe weather on Sunday.  A large area of the Ohio Valley has an enhanced or slight risk of severe weather.
