HEBRON, Neb. -- A man that was previously from Hebron was given 20 years in prison for his child pornography conviction.

Acting U.S. Attorney Susan Lehr said 23-year-old Joseph Martin, formerly of Hebron, was sentenced in federal court in Omaha on Thursday. He was convicted for distribution of child pornography after having previously been convicted of possession child pornography. Martin will serve 20 years in prison with a 30-year term of supervised release after. There is no parole in the federal system. Martin also has to pay $24,000 in restitution.

According to court documents, Homeland Security Investigations in Omaha got multiple cyber tips from the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) and Nebraska State Patrol on Nov. 9, 2021. One tip has information forwarded by Facebook to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) about child exploitation material sent by a Facebook user on July 12, 2021.

Officials said Facebook identified the IP address and account that uploaded the suspected child porn image. Facebook confirmed the account username belonged to Martin. Additional investigative work determined the IP address and associated phone number belonged to Martin.

Authorities state that they used a search warrant for Martin’s Facebook account which had numerous images of child porn. Martin admitted to law enforcement that 500 images of child porn would be found on various cyber sites linked to him.

According to court documents, Martin was previously convicted on Aug. 23, 2019 and March 19, 2021, of possession of child pornography, both in the Douglas County District Court.

This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the NSP.
