Law enforcement gearing up for New Year’s weekend

BEATRICE, Neb - It’s a time of year when people celebrate the passing of another 365 days, ready to ring in a new year.
For law enforcement, New Year’s is a busy time, making sure people celebrate both self and smartly.
“There are a lot of people that go out on New Year’s Day, sometimes it’s even more important than New Year’s Even night,” Beatrice Police Capt. Dan Moss said. “This being a Sunday, with New Year’s Day on a Monday, the bars will probably be busy.”
Capt. Dan Moss and the Beatrice Police Department will look to keep the southeast Nebraska town safe this weekend, with officers on the road, watching for impaired drivers, but also keeping an eye on the bars themselves, with the hope of limiting conflicts and other problems.
“If we see the bars are busy, we try to make. Walk through to let the bar tenders know if they have any issues, we’re around and they can call us if they have any problems,”
When it comes to celebrating safely, Moss says a designated driver is always a good idea, but there may even be better options.
“Find someone who’s willing to be called at 2:00 in the morning that’s willing to pick you up,” Moss said. “Find even an 18 year old kid who’s willing to make maybe an easy 50 bucks that can be ready when you call to get picked up… Find someone who’s willing to, and is sober, to come pick you up.”
