BEATRICE – A defendant residing in Texas drew a Gage County probation term Thursday, during sentencing in District Court.  31-year-old Brent Ackerman was sentenced by Gage County District Judge Rick Schreiner, on charges in two criminal cases.

Ackerman will serve a three-year probation term for possession of methamphetamine, obstructing government operations and carrying a concealed weapon.
The judge chose probation on both the felony drug count and the two misdemeanor charges, rather than fines for the misdemeanor violations. The judge cited Ackerman’s criminal record which dates back to 1999.

"You're not working. You seem pretty active in the criminal area, though. You admit that you've got some mental health issues....and all of those mental health issues, at least according to you...are brought on by your extensive, years-long heavy drug use. It's pretty hard to feel sorry for you. No issue with drug abuse causes problems...so you walked into that, voluntarily."

The judge allowed Ackerman to serve the probation term in either Nebraska or Texas. He is currently on probation in a Texas case.
"You have messed around long enough...in Gage County and in Texas...and in Lancaster County. Now it's time for you to be facing some serious consequences for your actions instead of getting a fine, a slap on the wrist and probation."

Ackerman was arrested in June of 2022 after a sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to investigate multiple 9-1-1- calls from an area near Cub Creek and Southwest 75th Road. Ackerman was found to have dialed 9-1-1 ten times and called a non emergency line more than eight times, tying up dispatchers from their duties and real emergencies.

During a search, Ackerman was found to be in possession of brass knuckles concealed in his pocket.
