Beatrice Police, school officials respond to report of possible weapon at elementary building

A search of Stoddard Elementary found no weapon

BEATRICE – A report from a parent about a weapon possibly being brought to a Beatrice Elementary School prompted an investigation by local police and school officials early Wednesday.

A lockdown was initiated at Stoddard Elementary School according to school policy, following the report by a parent at 8:16 a.m.  Beatrice Police were immediately dispatched to the scene, conducting an investigation which determined that no weapon had been brought onto the school property.

Police verified the safety of all students and staff, resolving the incident in about 15 minutes.  Superintendent Jason Alexander says a thorough search was conducted of the school building, and no weapon was found.

Beatrice Public Schools and Beatrice Police are conducting a follow-up investigation of the incident.
