BEATRICE – A Columbus state senator is the new Chairperson of the Legislature’s Transportation and Telecommunications Committee.  Senator Mike Moser was elected by his colleagues in a three-way race for the committee chairmanship. Moser has been a member of the committee for two years.

"Broadband continues to be an issue despite all the money we've spent on various grant programs. We haven't had the results that we want, so we need to work seriously at better accountability of to whom we give grants...and the results that we get. Also, I have a passion for roads and I think in greater Nebraska, roads are critical to the economic development of greater Nebraska."

Moser said the state's expressway system, outlined in 1998, is still not completed. He told colleagues the state needs to give the Department of Transportation all the tools they need, to get that job done.

Moser takes over for Senator Suzanne Geist, who resigned her legislative position to focus on her run for Mayor of the City of Lincoln.

Moser received 28 votes from his fellow senators for the committee chair position. Senator Wendy DeBoer, of Omaha received 12 votes…..and Senator Tom Brandt, of Plymouth, received 5 votes. DeBoer and Brandt are current Transportation Committee members.

Newly appointed State Senator Carolyn Bosn’s appointments to the Judiciary and Transportation Committees were approved by lawmakers, Thursday.
