Three teens in custody after crashing a reportedly stolen vehicle in Lincoln
Three Lincoln teens were taken into custody after they reportedly stole a truck and hit another car with it.
LINCOLN, Neb. -- Three Lincoln teens were taken into custody after they reportedly stole a truck and hit another car with it.
The Lincoln Police Department said officers were sent to the 1300 block of S 10th St. on Tuesday around 3:50 p.m. for a report of a stolen vehicle.
Officers said they talked to the 46-year-old and 20-year-old male victims. The victims told officers that they had arrived at the jobsite and left their 2011 Toyota Tundra running and unlocked in the driveway. They reported that an unknown female and two males were seen by the truck before it was taken north on 10th St.
According to authorities, officers were dispatched to D St. and 10th/9th St. around 4:00 p.m. the same day for an accident. They found that the stolen truck had reportedly hit a 2021 Toyota Tacoma on D St., the damage was estimated at $20,000.
Officials said the people in the stolen truck had fled the scene before the officers arrived but they got a report of suspicious people in the 1100 block of B St. The caller reported seeing three people outside of their door, with the two men wearing masks.
LPD said the suspects left the building and officers saw them near 13th St. and D St. before they were stopped at Casey's, 1001 S 13th St. The victims of the stolen truck showed up at Casey's and they reportedly identified the three suspects as the group they saw earlier near their vehicle before it was stolen.
Police said the suspects were 18-year-old Donavan Garrett, a 17-year-old girl, and a 15-year-old boy. Garrett was taken into custody and lodged in jail for theft by unlawful taking. The 17-year-old was referred for theft by unlawful taking before she was taken home and the 15-year-old was referred for theft by unlawful taking and lodged at Youth Assessment Center due to an unrelated warrant.
