BEATRICE – A former member of the Gage County Board of Supervisors is returning to the board, to fill out the remainder of the term of the late Dennis Byars.

A three-member committee that conducted interviews of five candidates Wednesday, has selected Dave Swavely to fill the remainder of the term which extends through early January, 2025.

Swavely is retired from Neapco Manufacturing, and previously served about nine years on the Gage County Board.

Byars recently passed away after serving several terms on the Gage County Board.  He was also a long-time Nebraska State Senator, serving several terms for District 30.

The other candidates interviewing for the post were Janet Byars, John Bartels, Ashley Mason and Lawrence Fossler.   The committee charged with making the selection under state law, was County Attorney Roger Harris, County Clerk Dawn Hill and County Treasurer Laurie Wollenburg.

Harris said the committee appreciated the willingness of the five citizens to apply for the position and the quality of applicants was excellent.
