BEATRICE – Two recreational features in Beatrice will now be formally named, following major contributions that made them possible.
The Beatrice City Council approved a resolution naming field number one at Hannibal Park, as Kiwanis Field.

"With the gracious donation from the Kiwanis Club, what we have here is a donation agreement. They've pledged $40,000 to be used out at Hannibal Park for improvements. The agreement calls for $30,000 to be paid by June 1st of this year and $10,000 by June 1st, of next year."

City Administrator Tobias Tempelmeyer says field number one is the championship field at the east Beatrice Park that is used by Beatrice High School.
The money from Kiwanis came through several projects and money earned during the Mudecas tournament.

A trailhead along the Chief Standing Bear Trail will also gain a name, following a recent donation of $50,000 through the Gage County Foundation.

"Back in December, we had the Gage County Foundation here, and at that time they donated $50,000 to be used at that trailhead located at Sixth and Perkins, or near the Dempster area. We've been trying to come up with a name, and we came up with the Gage County Foundation Trail Depot."

Recently, the newly named trailhead has seen upgrades, including a new restroom facility and hard-surfaced parking, along with seeding and landscaping that is in progress. It will also include a storm water retention area in the future.
