FAIRBURY, NE — Dry and windy conditions are prompting officials to take precautions in southeast Nebraska.

Fairbury city officials placed a burn ban on Crystal Springs Monday afternoon. Under the ban, all campfires and burning of any kind at the recreation area is prohibited.

The ban currently has no expiration. It will be in place until further notice, according to Mayor Spencer Brown.

The ban is being issued at the request of local volunteer fire departments due to high fire dangers.

Jefferson County and several other southeast Nebraska counties are included in a Red Flag Warning that is set to last through Tuesday evening.

Volunteer Fire Departments across the state are also stretched thin trying to battle large wildfires, including the Road 702 Fire which has burned over 41,000 acres, according to the latest updates.
