Man arrested after woman killed in February Council Bluffs motorcycle crash

A man is arrested after police say he was driving a motorcycle that fatally crashed in February.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (WOWT) - A man is arrested after police say he was driving a motorcycle that fatally crashed in February.

According to the Council Bluffs Police Department, two people, Caleb Jefferson Bartels, 29, and Tomorrow Riley, 33, were riding a 2013 Harley Davidson Motorcycle on I-29 at the eastern I-80 interchange around 2:00 a.m. on Feb. 16.

Police say Bartels was driving the motorcycle before the vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a ditch, injuring both Bartels and Riley. Bartels was transported to Nebraska Medicine for treatment with serious injuries. Riley was killed at the scene after succumbing to fatal injuries.

Council Bluffs Police say they investigated alcohol and speed as factors in the crash. Police arrested Bartels Tuesday, April 5.

Bartels is charged with homicide by motor vehicle while under the influence, failure to maintain control, and operation without a license. His bond is set at $50,000 and he has a hearing scheduled for April 14.
