FAIRBURY, NE — The Fairbury Rural Fire Department is getting a donation because to the community’s participation in blood drives.

The fire department was awarded $750 through the Nebraska Community Blood Bank’s Hometown Heroes program. The Blood Bank donates dollars to communities outside of Lincoln and Omaha which host blood drives. The community can then direct the money to a local charity.

Jefferson Community Health and Life hosts a bloodmobile at its campus every eight weeks and collected 61 units of blood over the summer. The next blood drive is set for January 31.

The fire department will direct the money to its rescue fund and use it for equipment.
