CHESTER, NE — The show starts up when the sun goes down on December nights in Chester.

Cindy Chinn lives in the old Chester school building and uses the classrooms as art studios. Come Christmas time, the school itself becomes her canvas.

The idea came after hosting a Halloween party in 2007.

“Then Christmas came around and the lights were still up from Halloween, and so we got together and said, ‘hey let’s do a big Christmas show,’" Chinn said. "And this is year 15!”

The show has transformed over those 15 years. At one point, the old lights were connected by four miles worth of cable. Now, the LED lights are controlled over wifi and offer 32,000 color options.

Chinn spent a month building a mega tree earlier this year.

“So I had to buy the pixels and individually set the strings up, set the controller box up, program all the songs,” Chinn said.

Chinn used to be the director of the light and sound show for the Fremont Street Experience in Las Vegas. The Christmas show lets her continue with that passion.

“I put the show up because I enjoy it, actually," Chinn said. "It’s the geeky factor for me that I enjoy. Making the lights twinkle is really cool.”

The Chester Light and Sound Show runs from 6:00-10:00 every night the rest of the month.
