FAIRBURY - The southeast Nebraska town of Fairbury honored a fallen firemen Monday morning.

Chris Parker passed away from complications of COVID-19, but the firefighter community made sure he wouldn't be forgotten and that his fellow firemen were able to attend ceremonies.

Mark Meints is fire chief for the Wymore Fire Department and his unit was one helping out.

"We're here to help out Fairbury Rural Fire today, so they could attend their fallen fire fighter's funeral," Meints said.

The unit is on duty to assist in emergency and ambulance calls, but also to show their support. They lined K St, some giving a salute. The support, both for Parker, and the assistance for a fellow unit is standard code.

"Not only just here in southeast Nebraska, but across the state, and across the nation, we do all support each other," Meints said. "It happens whenever there is a fallen fire department."
