City crews repair Beatrice water main break

BEATRICE – Beatrice Water Department crew members Friday completed repairs on a water main break in the east part of the city. Department officials announced that repairs had been completed at 9:30 am with water service being restored shortly after.
The break occurred along Jefferson Street from 19th to 20th. Cold weather left icy spots for traffic in the area. Temporary service interruptions were experienced by customers in that area as the repair work was proceeding.
During the cold weather, city officials said residents who have experienced frozen pipes before in extremely cold weather can take a few steps to prevent any problem.
That includes opening cabinet doors under sinks to let heat inside…especially if the sink is near an outer wall. You can also allow water to trickle through faucets to keep water moving as a guard against freezing….and check for any air drafts or cracks in basement walls close to water pipes…and have them sealed.
