ADAMS, Neb. - After a dozen years in the East Central Nebraska Conference, Freeman Public Schools is looking to make a change.
In a letter from Superintendent Andrew Havelka to the conference board of directors, a request was made for Freeman to join the Southern Nebraska Conference. The letter cites a decrease in conference schools in recent years and financial instability in the ECNC, while also noting Freeman's growth, making it a better fit for the SNC.
In addition, Freeman competes against several schools in the SNC each year.
The change has been requested to begin in the 2027-2028 school year.
While in the ECNC, Freeman was won nearly 80 conference championships or runner-up titles.
