Work continuing at two new housing sites in Beatrice
Two former school sites to help address the local need for more housing
BEATRICE – The Beatrice City Council held a short session Tuesday, closing out the 2025 fiscal year with some final contract payments on projects. They also received an update on progress at two new residential sites planned at the former Paddock Lane Elementary and Lincoln Elementary School Grounds.
City Administrator Tobias Tempelmeyer says utility work has been going on this summer and some concrete construction is now taking place.
"Corral Crossing is farther along. They are actually putting in paving, today...so if you've been up there, you're starting to see the curbs going in. That one, they're hoping to wrap that one up in the next couple of weeks...maybe a month by the time they get all the paving in. Heritage Heights is a little bit farther behind. Dirt work should be done this week. Sanitary sewer, storm sewer is starting to get installed, water probably gets in there next week. So, that one probably has another two to three months on that one, yet."
Contract increases were primarily to pay for additional dirt needed at the sites. The Corral Crossing and Heritage Heights areas will be a mix of single family homes, town homes or duplexes.
City officials Tuesday approved a contract increase of some $24,000 on the Corral Crossing project….and just under $3,500 on the Heritage Heights work. After the utility, street and curb work is finished, city officials turn their attention to selling the lots for home construction.
