LINCOLN, Neb. - Gov. Jim Pillen has officially launched his re-election campaign for Nebraska governor.

Pillen, a Republican, was first elected back in 2022. He defeated Carol Blood in the general election by 21% after winning a competitive Republican primary.

“Nebraska is stronger, safer, and freer – but if you learn anything growing up on the farm, there’s always more work to do,” Pillen said in a news release.

It's unclear if Pillen will have an opponent in the Republican primary. Charles Herbster, a businessman who finished second to Pillen in 2022, has not announced if he will try for the office again.

Independent Dan Osborn has told the Nebraska Examiner he would not rule out a run for governor.

The 2026 gubernatorial general election is on Nov. 3, 2026.
