Fairbury students build mini golf course for community fun

FAIRBURY, Neb -- Looking for a unique, family-friendly activity this weekend? Fairbury’s High Ability Learners (HAL) Club has something special lined up—a nine-hole mini golf course, designed and built entirely by local students.
The project, hosted at the 47 Building (district administration gym), is the result of months of planning, creativity, and collaboration between students, teachers, and parents. Each hole was imagined and constructed by pairs of HAL students who selected themes, designed layouts, and created playful challenges for golfers of all ages.
“This has truly been a team effort,” said HAL teacher Adrian Bowen. “Students not only tapped into their creativity but also developed problem-solving and collaboration skills. One student even told me my tools weren’t good enough—and brought his own!”
The mini golf course will be open for public play during the following times:
Friday, May 2nd: 6–9 p.m.
Saturday, May 3rd: 2–5 p.m.
Friday, May 9th: 6–9 p.m.
Saturday, May 10th: 2–5 p.m.
Admission is free, with optional free-will donations accepted. Bowen says the true goal is simply to bring families together and show off the incredible work of these students.
“We had one family say it was the most fun they’d had together in a long time,” Bowen shared. “That’s what it’s all about.”
