BEATRICE – Construction of the new Beatrice Area Solid Waste Agency Landfill southwest of Beatrice is way ahead of schedule, thanks to nearly ideal weather conditions.

Jason Moore, administrator of the landfill says dry weather may not help area farmers, but it’s worked out well for landfill work.  "We have got ideal clay for construction at the landfill onsite, so it doesn't have to be hauled in."

Moore says the moisture level of the clay is ideal and meets compaction levels. Construction officials were expecting to layer in the clay and it that it would take about a month to meet compaction level.

"Everything is well ahead of schedule. We've got our stormwater pond, which is already done...I believe cell one, if it's not done...it should be done, any day. I know they were putting black soil, dirt back over the top of the clay in places. We've got our leachate pond that was roughed in, already....so we're way ahead of schedule, right now."

Pruss Excavation, of Dodge, Nebraska....is the contractor for the site work. The new landfill, just south of the current facility, is expected to be open in late summer or early fall.
