BEATRICE – A fire that destroyed a Scott Street home in Beatrice early Monday has been deemed accidental in nature…originating in an enclosed porch at the rear of the residence.

Beatrice Fire Captain Jeremy Seggerman says property damage in the fire at 904 Scott Street was estimated at $85,000.

One of the homes’ occupants was taken to Beatrice Community Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.  No firefighters were injured battling the blaze.

Beatrice Firefighters arriving on scene at around one o’clock in the morning encountered dense smoke and flames coming from the rear of the house and the attic area, along with a small shed that had caught fire in the backyard.

Fire personnel used multiple hose lines to attack the blaze.  Ten firefighters, a fire engine, a ladder truck and two ambulances responded to the scene.  Beatrice Police, local electric and gas company crews also responded. Officials cleared the area at around 5:40 a.m.

A state fire investigator helped determine the cause of the fire.
