BEATRICE, Neb. - Both Orangemen and Lady Orange Basketball are starting the year 1-0.

The Lady Orange rolled past Nebraska City 59-26, while the Orangemen fended off a late Pioneers comeback big to win it 51-43.

Alijah Stabler led the Lady Orange with 22 points, despite not scoring in the fourth quarter. The Lady Orange connected on nine triples and forced Nebraska City into 22 turnovers in the win. Also in double figures for Beatrice were Callie Schwisow and Annie Gleason with 10 a piece and Tatum Tempelmeyer with 11.

On the boys side, Brody Nelson led the way with a game high 16 followed by Harrison Vetrovsky with 14. Despite leading by as much as 15 in the second half, the Pioneers gave Beatrice some fourth quarter troubles cutting the deficit to four in the fourth, but Beatrice hung on to win.

Both teams visit Ashland-Greenwood on Saturday.
