Betty L. Spilker, 93, of Beatrice, died Thursday morning, September 26, 2024 at the Beatrice Good Samaritan Center.  She was born on January 30, 1931 at Great Bend, KS to Harold and Velma Hazel.  Betty grew up at the Natural Gas Pipeline Co station in rural Great Bend, KS and graduated from Great Bend, KS High School in 1948. She attended Black Hills State College in Spearfish, SD. On November 2, 1956, she married Harvey Spilker at St. John Lutheran Church of Beatrice. They were blessed with two children, Ricki and Curtis.  She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Beatrice.  

Betty was active in water safety, multimedia First Aid, teaching CPR, and swimming lessons for 24 years for the Red Cross and the YMCA. She was also very active in the Republican Party.

                Survivors include her son, Curtis Spilker and wife Charlene of Beatrice; daughter, Ricki Rawlings of Omaha; five grandchildren, Heather Gochanour, Craig Spilker, Colin Spilker, Chase Spilker, and Courtney Spilker; eight great-grandchildren; eleven nieces, nephews and many extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey, who died on November 12, 2006; parents, Harold and Velma (Gromly) Hazel; brother, Harold E. (Gloria) Hazel; sister, Jean (Bill) Gibson; sister-in-law, Frieda (John) Heist; brother-in-law, Vernon (Esther) Spilker.

                Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice with Rev. Dr. Renae Koehler officiating.  Inurnment of the cremains will be at Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice.  Cremation has taken place and there will be no viewing.  A book for signatures will be available on Friday from noon until 8:00 P.M.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the American Red Cross.    www.foxfuneralhome.net     Arrangements entrusted to Fox Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Beatrice
