DUI cases, high traffic speed encountered during safety campaign

Safety effort conducted from mid-August through Labor Day weekend

BEATRICE - A Nebraska State Patrol end of summer Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign logged the arrests of 112 people for driving under the influence. The effort ran from August 14th through Labor Day Weekend.

Troopers also issued 1,792 citations for speeding, including 84 drivers who were cited for traveling over 100 miles-per-hour.

There were 127 driving under suspension violations, 50 open alcohol container violations, 36 minors in possession of alcohol, 38 motorists with no seat belt and 24 improper child restraint violations. State Patrol officers assisted 717 motorist assists during the campaign.

Grant funding from the Nebraska Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office helped finance the effort.

Labor Day Weekend also marked the traditional end of the summer travel season. Since Memorial Day Weekend, troopers across Nebraska have made 444 arrests for DUI. Troopers have also issued 7,882 citations for speeding, including 376 for driving over 100 miles-per-hour.
