Ruth M. Horstman
Ruth M. Horstman 99, of Lincoln, formerly of Sterling, died Wednesday morning, August 28, 2024 at Southlake Village Care Center in Lincoln. She was born on October 9, 1924 at Mitchell, NE. At the age of three she contracted polio and at the age of five she was adopted by her parents. Ruth graduated from Sterling High School in 1943. Her mother died in 1943 and she cared for her father for many years. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Sterling. Ruth belonged to the American Gladiola Society and raised glads to sell. She also belonged to a book club. Ruth enjoyed sewing, quilting, making Barbie doll clothes, and reading.
Survivors include nieces, Debra (Tregan) Albers, Ruth (Danny) Hietbrink, Velda Lempka, Rebecca Chapman, and Melissa Juilfs; nephews, Paul (Helen) Straube, Jr., Craig (Marlene) Straube, and Keith (Rebecca) Juilfs; great-nieces and great-nephews; other extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Anna (Monning) Horstman; sister, Rachel Monning Juilfs.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, September 6, 2024, at the Zink-Fox Funeral Home of Sterling with Pastor Jim Helgren officiating. Inurnment of the cremains will be at the North St. John Cemetery of Sterling. Cremation has taken place and there will be no viewing. A book for signatures will be available from noon until 4:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the funeral home.
