FARIBURY, NEB. - Nebraska Game and Parks recently documented a new fish species to the state and it was found in southeast Nebraska.

Scott Buss of Norfolk pulled in a Longear Sunfish at the Little Blue River in Fairbury on July 14. The catch was made with rod and reel and a nightcrawler worm.

Game and Parks says the fish was documented to be five and a half inches long, and just over two ozz in weight. Longear Sunfish are widespread in waters in the southeastern United States and are similar to Nebraska's native Green Sunfish.
