FAIRBURY, Neb. -- Homeless No More Cat Rescue hosted a Knockout Nachos event at the Bonham Theater Friday.
The event was centered around giving the community a nice meal but also using the funds to go towards spraying and neutering rescue cats.
“But yes, we do adopt a number of cats every year,” said Nancy Bettin, Housekeeper for the cats. “We usually get in . . . . almost 30 kittens a year and most of those get adopted. Right now, I’d say, any given time we have about 65 cats there.”
Bettin said they have had this event for years and it has been very helpful for the shelter. They have multiple events throughout the year to raise more funds.
“It's been for years that we’ve done this,” Bettin said. “So, we have the nachos in January and May and then in February and October, we have a soup lunch. And we have all kinds of events during the year.”
The event had many customers take food to go or eat at the theater, either way, the customers donated money to help with a problem that is common in Nebraska.
“Actually, I’m quite proud of our volunteers and what we do,” Bettin said. “And I’m actually very pleased that the people of Fairbury and surrounding areas are so supportive to us. Either in helping us with events like today or donating money and mainly looking out for animals.”
The Homeless No More Cat Rescue has multiple events throughout the year including a Souper Fundraiser on Feb. 23. You can find more information on their website at hnmcatrescue.org.
