Fairbury continues to plow roads as snow fall carries on
FAIRBURY, Neb. -- Snow will fall in Fairbury until Tuesday morning which is why it is important to drive safely and keep your vehicles out of the way of snow plows, according to Fairbury City Offices.
The snow has fallen in Fairbury for nearly 12 hours and the city was put into a snow emergency which Development Services Director in Fairbury Laura Bedlan explains.
“So, a snow emergency means that we are going to be out plowing and you need to make sure that your vehicles are off the snow routes so that we can get those plowed," said Laura Bedlan. "I would also suggest, for the most part, if you have the opportunity to not have your vehicle on the street, even if you don’t live on the snow route, to get it off the street so we can come through and get it plowed.”
With the snow set to fall throughout the night, it gets trickier as the sun sets for cars to see the snow and the ice on the roads. Bedlan said the plows will still keep the streets safe even after the sun sets.
“Depending on the rate of snow and how much we’ve got done, when it's hitting and when it's coming through again, we typically plow during the day and at night. Whatever fits the situation,” said Bedlan.
Like most experts say, try not to travel during some intense snowfall but if you have to travel, Bedlan said to make sure you be very careful and take routes that have been plowed.
“And if you do have to go out, obviously, just be really careful. Stick to the routes that have been cleared, that you can access easily. Go slow and just be careful,” said Bedlan.
The snow is set to fall for nearly 24 hours and winds are supposed to pick up Tuesday, causing drifting and colder temperatures. Bedlan said that she doesn't know if the plows will be running tomorrow once the snow stops, but they will make sure to keep the roads clear for residents.
