BEATRICE – A judge in Beatrice rejected a request for probation from a man convicted of third-offense driving drunk, sending him to prison instead.
44-year-old Curt Hagerman, of Blue Springs will serve two years in state prison and a year of post-release supervision, for third-offense driving under the influence and an ignition interlock violation.

Gage County District Judge Rick Schreiner also fined Hagerman $1,000 and revoked his driver’s license for fifteen years.

The judge noted that Hagerman had several prior drunk driving violations in the State of Montana, before his Nebraska violations. The judge said there was no way he was placing the defendant on probation. "Especially since you were given the opportunity on probation a year ago, and drank and drove. You have placed society in danger for 25 years. This is a different road in the State of Nebraska."

Schreiner said Hagerman is a danger to society….and proved that when he drove drunk while on a county court probation term. "I cannot in good conscience put you on probation with your continuing history of placing people at risk, because you won't quit drinking and driving."

The fine issued in the case and court costs were ordered deducted from Hagerman’s bond amount.

Hagerman was arrested last June by a Gage County Sheriff’s deputy after the officer was dispatched to the area of South 66th and Juniper Road on a report of a vehicle being driven recklessly. A pickup was observed pulled over to the side of the road, but then drove away, eventually pulling into a driveway off Sargent Road. That’s where the officer made contact with Hagerman, who appeared under the influence and whose license had earlier been revoked while on probation.

In other district court cases on Wednesday…

58-year-old Dusty Mayhew, of Blue Springs was sentenced to four years on probation for two criminal cases involving drug possession and two counts of obstructing police

51-year-old Jerry Barnes, of Beatrice was admonished by the judge for a probation violation of leaving the state for Texas, where his son was undergoing a heart transplant, without first obtaining permission from state probation. Judge Schreiner extended Barnes’ original three year probation term that began in 2022…to November 2nd, of 2026. The judge said probation likely would have granted permission for Barnes to travel to Texas.
