FAIRBURY, Neb. -- Fairbury local, Kelly Davis, is putting together an event called Bar to Bar for Par. It is a charity event aimed at supporting roofing repairs for the Rock Island Depot.
The event will take place on Oct. 14 at 10 a.m. and registration is already open.
Davis said, the depot has connections to many in the town of Fairbury.
“Rock Island was a big employer in Fairbury back in the day, and I was thinking, ‘everybody in this town probably has some sort of tie to that place’ and I’m hoping that they step up and start filling up the spots for me,” Davis said.
The building took damage on its roof after storms swept through the area, producing hail and heavy winds.
“I think they have some storm damage and a number of different factors have caused that roof to fail,” Davis said. “My wife’s grandfather worked there forever, her dad worked there a little bit so we want to save it.”
Davis is hoping to raise about $10,000 for the repairs.
The event is $100 per four player teams, coming out to $25 per person. It also has a free meal after play.
The golfing will span across multiple bars around the area from Tooley's Lounge in Fairbury to Salty Dog in Steele City.
Davis said he hopes the community will come out to support a building that has seen its share of town history.
“Come out and help save the building that your grandpa, your uncle, your great uncle worked in,” Davis said. “It’s always a great time, kinda proud to put it on.”
Registration is open with cash and checks accepted for payment. Davis can be contacted by phone, 402-587-1456, or emailed, [email protected], for registration. The website for the event can be found here.
